Instructor: Annika Peloski My dye studio is called Dragon Strings, and I’ve been putting dye to string since 2015. I’m a passionate creator with a background in design, who is very strong in colour-theory. I was looking to get out of the corporate world and kind fell into dyeing after taking a class. I saw that I could use my background to create yarns that break the mold of ‘boring’ by dying one of a kind, funky, inspired yarns that are super awesome to work with and have colours that will knock your socks off! (Even if they are handmade)
I do just about everything that has to do with string, from fluff onwards. (I have not gotten any sheep or alpacas and/ or learned to shear them….yet.) I have dabbled in knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, macramé, knot work, and let’s not forget the dream catchers and friendship bracelets of my misspent youth. I’m mostly a knitter, with favourites being whatever has caught my eye at the moment, but I do produce a staggering number of both hats and socks every year. __________________________________________________________________________ Saturday Morning Workshop 9:15am – 11:45am Dyeing With Dragons We all know hand painted yarn is a dream to work with, now you can have all the fun of creating it yourself!
Starting with only the basic colours we’ll learn how to combine them to make all the colours of the rainbow and then squirt them all over yarn!
Choose from fingering, DK or worsted weight skeins to design your masterpiece onto. All the dye, pans, squirters, instruction and shenanigans are included in the class free of charge.
There are a few different weights of yarn available for $30 a skein. (and yes, you can totally dye more than one, even in different bases if you want!)
Also, there are a few things you may want to bring - messy clothes (or apron), shoes you don’t mind getting dye on, any pictures that inspire you, your imagination and, most importantly, your sense of adventure!
Materials Fee per Student: $55 payable to instructor
What’s Included in the Kit: Yarn, Dye, Gloves, Colour Theory, Instruction, cooking of yarn and everything else you might need to make a fantastic skein of yarn Note: additional skeins available for $30 each __________________________________________________________________________ Saturday Afternoon Workshop 1:30pm – 4:00pm Throwing Shades Colour!
We all know that it can make or break a project, but how do we know which of the hundreds of hues out there are the ‘right’ ones?
Join Annika from Dragon Strings as she walks through colour theory from the very basics to more advanced projects with multiple shades and hues. Why do some colours vibrate, and others seem to fade together? The wonderful rainbow of colour will be explored, explained and expanded upon until you are comfortable making your own wonderful palette to use in all your crafts!
This lecture and question/answer workshop is multi-craftual friendly, and you don’t need any prerequisites to come and get colourful.
No kit is required, although there will be colour wheels and pins available for optional purchase if you want to take your newfound knowledge to the next level at home. __________________________________________________________________________ Sunday Morning Workshop 11:30am – 2:00pm Dyeing With Dragons We all know hand painted yarn is a dream to work with, now you can have all the fun of creating it yourself!
